On September 19, 2024, Gateway Foundation proudly hosted its Annual Connecting for Recovery Luncheon at City Hall Events in Chicago. This event brought together hundreds of community leaders, healthcare advocates, supporters, and alumni to celebrate Recovery and elevate the importance of providing and expanding access to high-quality services for treating substance use disorders (SUD) and supporting mental health.

At this year’s luncheon, we honored exceptional individuals who contributed significantly to the Recovery community. Michael Darcy, former Gateway Foundation President & CEO, received the Friend of Recovery Lifetime Achievement Award. Andrew Smith, former Gateway Foundation Board Member & Chair, was presented with the Ogilvie Humanitarian Award.

We were also honored to recognize Illinois State Representative Lindsey LaPointe and Illinois State Senator Omar Aquino with the Gateway Advocacy Award for their continued support in advocating for SUD and mental health services.

We named Gateway Foundation Volunteers Claire Demos and Jorge Villanueva the Gateway Volunteers of the Year and recognized their dedicated services and support of our mission.

Emceed by ABC 7 Chicago’s Karen Jordan, the event highlighted Gateway’s ongoing commitment to building healthier lives by reducing substance use and improving mental health. Dr. Will Miller, keynote speaker and expert in workplace wellness and organizational health, offered insightful remarks on the importance of stress management and interpersonal relationships.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the sponsors, donors, and the broader community for their unwavering support. Their generosity and dedication are the backbone of Gateway’s mission, making it possible to continue providing critical resources for those in need of treatment. Together, we stand united to uplift Recovery, support those needing SUD and mental health treatment, and build healthier communities.
